Landscaping: Weeds
Weeds are simple to make and you likely already have the supplies on hand needed to make some.
Supplies:
- Broom with natural bristles (see photo below)
- Hot Glue
- 1- 1 1/2 inches of thin wire (optional)
- Spray acrylic sealant (optional)
- Sewing thread (optional)
Broom with natural bristles
Instructions:
- Gather 6-10 bristles approximately 2 inches from the end of the broom (more or less depending upon the height of your desired weeds) and wrap the wire around them firmly at the 2-inch mark
- Cut the bristles off the broom, directly above your wire (so they remain in a bundle when cutting)
- You may need to/want to wrap a little more wire around the base of these bristles
- Arrange the bristles to point away from each other, thus making the bundle look like a dried-up plant
- Hot glue one end of the wire into the desired position (leave the other end loose to poke thru foam display base)
- Using a moderate amount of hot-glue, glue one end of the bristles together (the side with wire). Let dry
- (Optional) Hot-glue tiny pieces of knotted up sewing thread to the tips of bristles for faux pas lower buds
- Spray with acrylic sealant for durability
Note: if you don't have a natural bristle broom-paint brush bristles can be substituted for the broom
Preserved Spanish Moss
- Preserved Spanish moss (Brown moss used in artificial floral arrangements) strategically placed throughout the landscape is a quick & easy method for faking dead plants. It also looks realistic!
Note: moss will need to be glued to the landscape to prevent it from moving
